till the 2. GrevenGrass Bluegrass Festival!

Greeting from the Mayor and patron of the festival

Bürgermeister Peter Vennemeyer

Peter Vennemeyer

At pentecost 2009 the Greven citizens discovered a new facet of their town. More than a 1000 people from near and far and even from the european neighbouring countries visited the GrevenGrass festival.
They were listening to the music, spent their time in the campground at the Ems river, joined the jam-sessions and really ‘created’ a festival feeling our town did not know until now.
The organizing team was overwhelmed by the response. To shorten it: The first GrevenGrass festival was a raving success.
The GrevenGrass festival is a very special experience for visitors, musicians and even for the organizing team. I am very glad to see the meadows of the ems revitalized again this year with people and bluegrass-music.
Although the festival is just in its second year, it is already a milestone in the Greven calendar of events as well as in the European bluegrass festival calendar.
I am confident, as well as the organizing team, that the reissue of the GrevenGrass 2010 festival will be a great success.
Dear visitors, I wish you have some pleasurable and unforgettable days in Greven!
Yours
Peter Vennemeyer

Our local Band for GrevenGrass: The Looping Brothers PDF Print E-mail

The Looping Brothers :: Our local Band for GrevenGrass! Of course they are with us again. So to speak, they are the local band playing at the GrevenGrass.
Matthias Malcher, living close by, is a member of our GrevenGrass festival planning group. His festival experience and knowledge of the bluegrass music scene and all his most useful contacts shaped the GrevenGrass festival. Being an experienced musician, working in a lot of music projects where music is handmade and authentic, his heart is beating for bluegrass. A professional guitar and banjo player and a recording studio perfectionist. After starting with Country-Blues und Ragtime in his early years he was inspired by Lester Flatt, Doc Watson and Merle Travis in the 70s. This turned him to a bluegrass guitar and banjo player.

Lazy Tater is back! PDF Print E-mail

Lazy TaterBeppie playing with the Babes at the GrevenGrass! . . .and Ronnie, Geert and Jan left all alone in the Netherlands? - The three man didn’t even like to imagine. . .
They kept in mind last years wonderful atmosphere and their successful performance on the stage at the river Ems. They really where eager to play again this year in Greven.
So it didn’t take a lot of words to get the left alone part of the Lazy Tater band back into our program. It is no doubt, that Ronnie, Geert and Jan ‘made friends’ with the GrevenGrass festival. They are glad to be back here with Lazy Tater in 2010, and of course Beppie will join them!

dawgmatic PDF Print E-mail

dawgmaticdawgmatic was started in 2006 in Hamburg / Germany and since then impresses with virtuosic instrumental music on guitar, violin, mandolin, 5-string banjo and double bass – spiced up with a song here and there.

The basis of ‚dawg – music’ is the driving instrumental music of the American David Grisman – also called ‘dawg’.

dawgmatic found it’s own style on that basis, combining elements of jazz, classical music and bluegrass – intricate arrangements alternating with rampant improvisations.

The members of the band are well known in northern Germany in their respective musical fields. With dawgmatic everybody has the chance to combine their individual styles.

dawgmatic is:
Bernd Zeigert: mandolin
Gert Schmiester: guitar
Christian Maushake: bass, vocals
Sven Fritz: violin, vocals

Heartstrings PDF Print E-mail

HeartstringsAs the name of this duo implies, Bruno van Hoek and Elly Beurskens play their music – straight, clean and simple – from the heart, using their voices and the stringed instruments that are so typical for old-time country and bluegrass: banjo, dobro, mandolin, and guitar.

Both had been very active in different bands for quite a few years, when they met in the Amsterdam folk scene and discovered their mutual passion for honest acoustic music. Between 1986 and 1995 they joined French champion guitar player Jean-Paul Piquard in the successful country-folk trio Reckless Fingers, winning the Dutch Country Music Association’s award for ‘Best Acoustic Group’ for six years in a row, and bringing out two albums (‘The New Land’ in 1988 and ‘Below Sea Level’ in 1992).
